FYI: editing (read: creatively "deleting") posts

Unread post by adjectivecat » Sun Nov 06, 2005 5:57 am

This has happened a good number of times, and I'd like it to please stop. The Edit button is there for you to make minor revisions, not to delete your entire post.

Consider what you post before you click Submit, because we don't like deleting posts, and like it less when people abuse the post-editing feature to do so. If necessary, I'll make it so that you can't edit your post after a certain amount of time, but I really don't want it to come to this.

One of the staff's big peeves with the old Yahoo group was deleted posts, and whenever possible, we try to simply archive them.

I make errors all the time. Writing is rewriting.

If you have to edit to the point of saying something entirely different, you shouldn't say something in the first place.

I felt this way when I made the very general statement about the OT sexuality poll topic, but rather than erasing everything, I'll just clarify what I meant in the first place, and leave a linked note from my first post.

Tiny errors != rewrite; not what I'm referring to. ^_^
