Client Configuration

Account:

  • The combined user disk quota for all services is roughly a gigabyte.
  • SSH access requires a secure shell client, which is a bit like telnet.  We recommend the free PuTTY client.

DNS and Web-hosting:

  • Your site can be accessed at http://username.sacfurs.com, which will redirect to http://www.sacfurs.com/~username.
  • Custom domains can be setup.  Our DNS servers are NS1.THEWEYR.NET and NS2.THEWEYR.NET.  Please contact Leam if you’d like to move a domain over.
  • SSI is enabled, and .htaccess files should work just fine.
  • DNS typically takes 24 hours to propagate after initial setup.
  • Perl, shell scripts, and php are supported for CGI.

FTP:

  • If you don’t fancy the FTP commandline, you can use the free FileZilla client.
  • Connect to sacfurs.com on the default FTP port.
  • Active and passive connections should both work.

E-mail:

  • I just found out that file attachments are limited to 2 megabytes.  I’m working on this.
  • The incoming mail server is sacfurs.com on the default POP3 and IMAP ports.
  • Please use your ISP’s outgoing (SMTP) mail server, if possible.  If your ISP does not relay SMTP, you may use our server, which requires authentication.  The address is sacfurs.com.
  • Documentation for SquirrelMail can be found here.

Blogs:

  • Users wanting to create a blog on their site should contact Leam.
  • WordPress documentation can be found here.

Usermin:

  • Webmin documentation can be found here.

XML/RSS Feeds:

Usermin:

  • Webmin documentation can be found here.

IRC:

  • The GAIM and Trillian (non-free) IM clients have IRC integration, for those who want to get up and running quickly.
  • mIRC is a more full-featured (and non-free) client.
  • There’s always the web interface (use the #sacfurs channel).
