SacFurs RSS Feed
Posted at 4:41 pm on July 30, 2004 in News | No CommentsDetails:
This site automatically generates an “XML RSS feed”:/index.xml, for those of you who use them. This means that all of the SacFurs.com main content can be accessed as XML in RSS 2. I’ve taken some time to configure it a bit, and have outputted the first 100 words of each entry in the feed (as opposed to the first 10 or so in the “Yahoo one”:http://rss.groups.yahoo.com/group/sacramentofurries/rss). The link is http://www.sacfurs.com/index.xml for those interested.
A good, free RSS reader for Windows is “FeedReader”:http://www.feedreader.com.

FC05 Picnic
Posted at 10:29 am on July 28, 2004 in Events | No CommentsDetails:
Hello Everyfur, it’s almost time again for the annual FC picnic! Come join many Bay Area furs and others for an afternoon of furry fun and socializing at the Turtle picnic area at Lake Chabot, part of the East Bay Regional Parks District.
_When is it?_
The FC Picnic will be on Saturday, August 7, 2004, from 11am to 4pm.
_Where is the FC Picnic going to be?_
The Turtle picnic area at Lake Chabot. The park address is 17930 Lake Chabot Road, Castro Valley, CA 94546. “Here is a map link”:http://maps.yahoo.com/maps_result?ed=9odkBup_0To1OiXzvT7s6.8fqw6grzGEtIy.4BI-&csz=Castro+Valley%2C+CA+94546-1950&country=us&new=1&name=&qty=. For more info about Lake Chabot, see the “East Bay Regional Parks site”:http://www.ebparks.org/parks/lakechab.htm.
_Directions:_
Get to 580 West. Either take 80 West to 680 South to 580 West (Benicia Bridge route), or use I-5 South to 205 West to 580 West (Altamont Pass route). From 580 West, “take the Strobridge Avenue exit. Turn right on Strobridge, right on Castro Valley Boulevard, and left on Lake Chabot Road. The Lake Chabot Marina is about two miles ahead on the right.” From the Sacramento area, this trip is about 100 miles, which will take about 1 hour and 45 minutes to complete. Note that if you use the Benicia Bridge route to get back home, there will be a $3 toll to use the bridge going north.
_Why go? What should I expect?_
This is a fun event with lots of furs. I went last year, and I had a great time. There will be food and drinks available. Some furs will bring their fursuits and wear them a bit. The FC ‘04 DVDs will be on sale there for $10. You can also buy a full membership to FC 2005 for only $35 (last time this low price is available). For more info, see the “FC website”:http://www.furtherconfusion.org/fc2005/camping_picnic.php.
_What will cost money? How much?_
The FC Picnic is about 100 miles away. Gas will run you about $20+ per vehicle for a round trip. Parking is $4 per vehicle. If you bring dogs, they will cost $1 each. The actual FC Picnic is free to attend. Also bring money for anything you wish to buy (FC shirts, DVDs, FC memberships, etc). Last year there was an auction, which would obviously require more funds if one takes place this year and you choose to participate.
_Am I expected to contribute anything?_
No. It would be nice, though. Keep in mind that events are only as good as the effort that the participants contribute. You can bring a food dish, drinks, or snacks to share, or you could help set up or clean afterwards. Help carry stuff. Be a good fur. Last year I stuck around to help clean the picnic area and put stuff away. As a result, I was able to meet and talk with the Chairman of FC ‘04. If you are fun to be around, carry your own weight, and contribute to events when you can, your efforts will be noticed and you might be invited to other events (many fur events are invite only and are not announced on lists).
_Recommendations:_
You are all certainly capable of making your own decisions about what to do and what not to do at events. I offer these recommendations as a fur who has been to this event before in order to maximize your enjoyment of the FC Picnic. These are only recommendations, treat them as such. If you have comments or questions for me, contact me privately, let’s keep it off the list, okies?
_Fursuits:_
Bring ‘em if you have ‘em. There will be a tent to use for changing.
_Ears/Tails/Collars:_
You are welcome to wear what you have. Some comments were made from a few mundanes when I walked by their picnic areas, so if this bothers you, keep it in mind. If you can’t handle the ignorant commentary that some mundanes choose to dish out, remove your furry attire when you leave the furry area (Turtle picnic site).
_Drugs:_
No. Don’t bring any. There is really no place private enough to do anything drug-related. Lots of rangers, and lots of mundanes in other picnic areas.
_Alcohol:_
Not recommended. Beer and wine seem to be allowed, but the rules are very complex. No other alcoholic beverages seem to be allowed. If you want to bring beer or wine, please read the rules. See “SECTION 410. ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES”:http://www.ebparks.org/district/ord_38/ord_38CH4_7.htm.
_Wait! I heard there’s camping at this event. Where’s the info?_
Yes, there is camping available for those who are interested. The camping runs from August 6th (Friday afternoon) to August 8th (Sunday morning). There is a cost of $5 per person per day. RSVP is required for camping. For the camping details, and to RSVP, please see “the FC camping and picnic page”:http://www.furtherconfusion.org/fc2005/camping_picnic.php.
I hope this post has enough info and covers all of your questions. If you have any comments or questions for me, contact me privately. My contact info is in the furbook database. Be well, everyfur.
Hugs and cuddles for all my fellow furs.

Healing Meet
Posted at 3:29 pm on July 27, 2004 in Events | No CommentsDetails:
After all the drama lately, I would like to attempt to work out all of the problems, on-list. Along these lines I would like _everyone_ — whether involved in, wounded by, or merely watching from the side lines of this conflict — to join for a meet to talk and discuss this all in person. I would also like to invite any one who has decided this group isn’t worth their time to see if we can not fix the problem that you are having.
This group has become as close as family to me, and to lose anyone would be a great tragedy. I have faith in each in every one of you to come forth, speak your mind, and listen to that which others say. I know we can work out these problems and come up with solutions that will please everyone.
The meet will take place at “Ancil Hoffman Park”:http://maps.yahoo.com/maps_result?ed=19Kxh.p_0TqmqX0m0QwJs5kDA2B_7Q5yN18Jf2c-&csz=Carmichael%2C+CA&country=us&new=1&name=&qty=, in Carmichael, Sat at 2pm.
Also you may show up even if you want no part of the discussion, the park has many options for fun. It’s right on the river, has many nature trails and a nature center. Everyone should bring a towel and swimsuit.
Once you make it in the park, “here is a map”:/graphics/ancil-trail.jpg.

The camping trip is Friday the 16th through Sunday the 18th, we can show up at the earliest, 2pm on Friday and we have to vacate by 12 noon on Sunday.
Camping with us will cost $30 per person; this includes 4 meals (2 breakfasts and 2 dinners). If you are not taking part in the group meals, camping costs $10. All money should be handed in to Mallin/Davin by Sat July 10th as we need to go shopping beforehand and we paid for the campsites out of pocket.
Car pooling and Tent pooling will be in effect as there is only space for 2 cars per site and only space for so many tents. Please call me (Davin)(916) 223-4460 or e-mail (madmonkeyfoot@hotmail.com) me for details on this, I am organizing the rides and tents. If you must have a tent by your self make sure it is small, like pup-tent size.
Food organization is being taking care of by Solaxy Fox our Logistics Kitsune He has pancakes planned for breakfast and hamburger and hotdogs one night and hoagies the next. You can contact him regarding food at (solaxy@hotmail)
